Hi Sam. Thanks for making me feel that I'm not "wandering lonely" as a UK HR type in the Twiiterverse! Do you think it's got much penetration commercially beyond the social media areas? My sense right now is not.

Mmmm, I think areas that have really strong social groups generally have taken to Twitter like a duck to water. Sustainability and green types are all over it because they have historically got their strength from numbers. Teenagers are the same. However commercially, as a society, we're not used to pulling together yet. We'll get there but I think its a change in mindset for many business people.

Hi Hugh and Sam

I too am part of the Twitterverse and find it a wonderful way to access new ideas and links. There's a great balance of personal and public.

I would contend never is too soon. If you understand what engagement is and how to achieve it, then you know what an engaged employee sounds like and acts like as compared to one who is somewhat engaged or disengaged. Surveys turn people off while…

If you focus on engagement, productivity will follow. If you focus on productivity, you may not get it. To begin engagement, sit down with each employee for 40-60 minutes, privately, quietly, and confidentially, and get to know them better -- thei…
