Differences between the employee engagement practices of an IT and a Manufaturing company

Do the factors such as employee background, cost, profitability, resources availability etc help in the difference?? I don't know where to get data on this topic. Could anyone pls guide me??

Aji,
I'm not sure how you would find data on this topic either (except to identify some companies in both categories and go there to conduct a survey), but I would bet that there would be both similarities and differences in employee engagement practices.

Similar practices I'd expect:
- Both might have a regularly scheduled EE survey to measure engagement
- Both might have reward and recognition programs

Different practices I'd expect:
- an IT firm might have more flexible work arrangements
- an IT firm might offer more "new age" perks such as concierge services

Terrence,
I was expecting the same as IT firms are knowledge based they are a more fertile ground for EE models. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me....do you know where I can find some data on EE practices of a manufacturing company??....I know conducting a survey would be the best option...but i cannot get any manf company to answer my questions, they r not co-operating...but i was lucky with IT Cos...

Cheers
Aji Peter

I am also looking for information about the differences in engagement of science and technology workers compared to other working populations. If any one has suggestion where to find information that would be great.

Ah, the script for a boss! That is easy, but a long way from the traditional one. First, I suggest the boss do a quick read of Douglas McGregor's "The Human Side of Enterprise" to gain an understanding of the theory behind X and Y. Then commit the…

My view on this is that where you treat employee engagement like a ‘big bang’ corporate change programme it will always carry a significant risk of turning into an ‘organisational Vietnam’. Don’t go to war in the first place! Do it by taking lots a…
