The Employee Engagement Network

I am an Australian based speaker and workshop leader who specialises in all things engagement. I am currently writing an ecourse on Generational engagement and I am seeking some input from other professionals. If you are interested in getting exposure to a largely Australia, New Zealand and South East Asian audience please contact me and I will send you specific details on what I am looking for.

Alan,

I sent the reply below to your other email address but it bounced back so thought I would try this one instead.

Alan,

Thanks for your email and also for replying to my forum question on the Employee Engagement network site.

I’ve had a look at your website to get a better idea of what you do. I am actually working on 2 ecourses: Generational Engagement and Employee engagement so you might want to contribute to both. Here is some information on what I would be looking for including a sample of one unit.

Your contribution can take the form of a short article (500 words), case study or a list of tips. You are also welcome to make an offer to subscribers (eg free ebook, discount on your products, etc). In return for your contribution I would include a short bio on you, a link to your website and a free subscription to the e-course (valued at A$99) which you can use yourself or giveaway to one of your clients. The topic areas I have available are:

• Designing engaging jobs
• Offering engaging career paths
• Becoming a generation friendly organisation
• What flexibility means to each generation

As for your offer of becoming a sales agent of your products, at this stage I am busy enough delivering my own material but thank you for the invitation.

Another message i sent bounced . . . your addresses really don't like me! Basically it said can i get something for the ecourse by the end of September.

Alan,

My ecourse contributions are a "moving feast" at the moment so I just wanted to clarify your topic area as some of my other contributors have changed their submissions! Don't you love it when people change their mind!

So what I need help with is "What flexibility means to each generation" and "Offering engaging career paths".

Karen, I'm likely late to the table on this. I co-authored a paper on values segmentation for Generation X that might be helpful. It's on the Resources page at my website (www.paulfairlieconsulting.com). Yes, it's older (1996) but those values 'tribes' likely still hold up. There's more variability within generations than we think. My own research with the Meaningful Work Inventory shows few age differences in what we strive for in the workplace (in terms of intrinsically-rewarding job characteristics; in other words, let's not assume it's just the young 'uns who want growth and development!).

Paul,

Thanks for your response. You are not too late to contribute. However, I already have Generation X covered off but on checking your website I thought your article on "5 must haves of meaningful work" would be great for my other ecourse on Employee Engagement. Do I have your permission to use some of it (eg 500 words or so)?

Ah, the script for a boss! That is easy, but a long way from the traditional one. First, I suggest the boss do a quick read of Douglas McGregor's "The Human Side of Enterprise" to gain an understanding of the theory behind X and Y. Then commit the…

My view on this is that where you treat employee engagement like a ‘big bang’ corporate change programme it will always carry a significant risk of turning into an ‘organisational Vietnam’. Don’t go to war in the first place! Do it by taking lots a…
