First, hope your book is going well!

Second, one thing that makes a leader influential - and thus able to engage employees - is his/her ability to communicate a vision and share that vision - and the enthusiasm for that vision - throughout the organization. Additionally, leaders who are up and about (not just sitting in their office) talking to employees - getting their ideas on the business. The more employees feel as if their thoughts about the business and it's direction are listened to, the more engaged they feel.

A few individuals I have known who haven't been successful in leading an organization and engaging their employees is because they don't bother talking with the employees and listening to them. For one, he was afraid that he wouldn't have all the answers and that would be apparent to the employees. For another, he just didn't feel like he had to - he was the boss after all.

Looking forward to this discussion!

Best,
Gina

Hello, been so busy writing the book I have not posted in a bit, promising to be more active now. So what does make an influential leader? Employee engagement is the key but how each person does it differs. What do leaders know about being engaging? What do they still have to learn? What are they most afraid of? How can we as coaches, consultants and mentors help?

As a survey consultant I guess that I should like the idea of conducting monthly surveys, but I am concerned that employees may feel that they are being "over surveyed." There are options, of course. An organization might randomly assign each emplo…

This is a great read, a great story. I smiled the whole time as I read this. If this conversation is possible in your organization, then I'd say your leadership is trusted and transparent. Thanks for this story.
