Carolyn,
I am pleased to see you reach out to connect with people in Toronto. If I was in the area I would definitely take you up on the idea.

Carolyn... Employee recognition and communications play a huge role in engagement. You might want to consider attending RPI's Recognition Roundtable in Toronto next month on the 11th from 1 - 3 pm. It is an informal afternoon gathering of professionals from some of the largest companies in Canada. They discuss Best Practice recognition strategies one of which is communications. Let me know if you have an interest and I can provide more details. peter

Hi, Carolyn. I'd be happy to sit down and pursue your idea.

Hi there, I'm just wondering if anyone in the Toronto area would like to get together and share ideas and perspectives in person! As a communications professional, I'm really interested in how we can find ways for HR,Communications and Marketing to work more closely together to drive engagement. Anyone interested??

Hello Canada!
I work for a large helicopter company in Richmond B.C.
I am currently looking at ways in which our orientation processes can truly engage new employees. With the average statistics showing that a new employee may only stay with a company for 1.5-2 years it becomes imperative that the intigration into the company be more immediate than the predicted average of 4-6 months. We currently use a LMS for the corp. generic orientation overview but my concern is to not only get the employee engaged but fully functional in their new position in our company as quickly as possible. I would love to hear from you to get some ideas i.e. mentor/checklists etc. thanks!

Hey Peter, hope you aren't snowed in... I finally can see my driveway again (which is a good thing because Steve bent the snow shovel in half!) It's out with the recycling tomorrow!

Hi Jean.. Happy New Year to you and yours too! Please don't talk about snow... I'm in Montreal and we are expecting 20cm today! Mind you, it looks very beautiful! Have a great day!

Well HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!
Finally, the snow is starting to melt in Maple Ridge, BC. Elementary schools also opened (closed for the first two days of the new semester due to snow). We have had an abundance of snow since December 17th.
FYI - Maple Ridge is about 45 km from Vancouver and we typically see snow last about 3 days in winter. Snow plows, hah!, and those that we have don't really know how to plow deep snow. Thank goodness we live on a street where we all help each other out. We shovel out our 90 year-old neighbour (a widow on her own) and she bakes us yummy goodies.

Back to businessy type stuff - I think that this year will present us with more challenges but with the fine network of friends we have created, I believe that weathering and meeting these challenges will be much easier. Best wishes to everyone.

Ah, the script for a boss! That is easy, but a long way from the traditional one. First, I suggest the boss do a quick read of Douglas McGregor's "The Human Side of Enterprise" to gain an understanding of the theory behind X and Y. Then commit the…

My view on this is that where you treat employee engagement like a ‘big bang’ corporate change programme it will always carry a significant risk of turning into an ‘organisational Vietnam’. Don’t go to war in the first place! Do it by taking lots a…
