Hi everyone,

I've been interested in Social Media for quite a while....back before that term became popular. I've been involved in various communities since the mid-90's and have seen the technology mature to what we see today.

One of my current projects involves helping client implement a social networking platform for use throughout their organization. This has gotten off to a rocky start due to the poor understanding of social media but I think we will get there eventually.

Feel free to follow me over on my blog (titled "Aligning Technology, Strategy, People & Projects" at http://ericbrown.com

Eric, sounds really interesting.

It'd be great if you could go ahead and start discussion thread for this group on Aligning Technology, Strategy, People & Projects and also on social networking.

Would love to hear some case studies.

I'm interested in why organisations are using social media and whether this, or 'real-world' activities have the greatest impact.

I'd be very grateful if other members could participate in my survey on this: http://social-business.blogspot.com.

I will of course, send particants a copy of the results and my conclusions from these.

Thanks and regards, Jon.

I just got back from delivering a presentation on determining the value of social media in your communication strategy at a Social Media conference in San Francisco. It focused on the basics - conducting research to determine the need, how to assess communications, how to assign value to communications and how an organization can determine ROI of communication.
If anyone is interested, I can provide more detail and a link to my presentation.

Sure, Jean. Feel free to add it here, or to create a new thread in this group.
Also, are you on Slideshare?

What is slideshare?

www.slideshare.net

It's a searchable online library of powerpoint slides - a good way of sharing your content.

I started playing with Usenet as a student in the mid-90s, and find myself at home in places like this and Linked-In. I understand the potential for social networking, particularly as a kind of 'solvent' for removing irrational, inefficient legacy stuff in big complex organisations. It's like having everyone attend a company Town Hall, every day, from 9-5, as well as spending 8 hours on their "day job". If you can do that, why wouldn't you?

Im a consultant at www.uffindellwest.com but as a hobby I started www.therunningbug.co.uk - a social network for runners of all levels. I'm interested to hear from companies or individuals that believe a truly "social" (ie not commercial) application of social media in a business can effect valuable internal comms benefits and doubles as a perk/benefit not to mention a health incentive to reduce offdays...Ive developed a corporate proposition for this and can send to interested parties.

Hi everyone.. I work for Verizon Business and drive the social media strategy for our internal communications (HR and Corporate information) as well as external talent acquisition efforts. I manage the corporate intranet for Verizon Business and work with colleagues across the Verizon enterprise to integrate social media into our intranets to drive employee engagement. On a personal side, I have a blog called "The Social Workplace" (http://www.thesocialworkplace.com) that is all about this topic. Looking forward to networking with like-minded individuals!

This is a great read, a great story. I smiled the whole time as I read this. If this conversation is possible in your organization, then I'd say your leadership is trusted and transparent. Thanks for this story.
