Alana: I think Peter Senge and his group outlined a whole bunch of ideas about engagement and the learning organization and I especially recommend the Fieldbook. I think we need to recognize people are learning all the time in many ways. Learnin...

Hi, I guess we learn to disengage as much as we do to engage; this is an outcome of our workplace learning. I sense that the drivers that determine the choice we make are concerned mostly with the "what's in it for me?" question. So, what are the...

Interested in your thoughts on employee engagement and workplace learning. What factors do you think need to be present in the so called "learning organisation" to influence employees to engage in workplace learning. What about the other end of th...

hello all, This seems to be a double edged sword, if I understand what you are asking. I think it does matter that the employee likes the work as well as the organization that they work for; can they be separated? I suppose for a short time the pe...

An employee should share the corporate vision and should appear to be committed to the organisation. Committment to the organisation shall bind him to the work as well. Being engaged only to his work may be myopic. However, some managers would exp...

Hi Alana, Interesting topic. I think it depends on what the role is. Honestly I can't think of many sales people I have met - and I'm thinking new business individuals rather than teams here - who have a deep and lasting commitment to the company...

Alana: This is a good question but in some ways a false question in that I don't want either/or. I want someone who engaged to both the work and the organization. If they are part of the organization (community) I would like them to feel and act a...

Karen, I do agree with your comments. However, in this time of economic downturn, are people really going to leave a "sure" salary to ventre into the world of the self employed? Seems to me these people may stick it out and continue to perform wel...

Seems to me that people who are highly engaged to their work but find it difficult to be engaged by the organisation end up self employed. It's the nature of the work that excites them, not the politics of organisational culture particularly if th...

Blue,

I appreciate your work on the forum. I also noticed that you got spammed by the Corinna Ortega bot. I apologize for this. From this point on it will be important for people on this business network to use actual names.

I want to put real names and faces on engagement, to avoid spam and to create genuine and identified dialogue. You created a very intriguing forum and I would love to feature it on our newsletter but I will not do so because of lack of identity.

Let me know if I can be of assistance.

David
