Kitchen Wisdom

Cooked Foods Are Why Humans Are Smart

The human brain is a calorie hog – it has to be to do all the work it needs to do. Around 200,000 years ago we figured out the joy of cooking, and our creativity and intelligence took a great leap forward. It seems by using the process of cooking to break down our food before [...]

Social Intelligence And The Biology Of Leadership

I have always been fascinated by the function of the brain, so when I came across this article in the Harvard Business Review, I just had to share it with all of you. The information and research presented is especially useful to any of you who doubt the power of the “gut” in decision making, or [...]

Discovery Your Secret Ingredient!

I asked my first chef mentor, “What’s the secret to your success from all of these years cooking for others?” I expected something from the cooking Holy Grail of information or something. I mean, after all, this guy has done it all. Cooked on a cruise ship, entertained royalty and dignitaries, so I figured that this [...]

When a Pinch is Not a Pinch!

I was sharing a 4th of July summer salad recipe with a friend on Facebook and referred to a measurement as “a pinch” ,for one of the ingredients. Which brought up the question, “what exactly is a pinch”. Well I know what a pinch is to me, but I wanted to see what a [...]

Who are you?
I have been involved with employee development and education since my return back to the US from the UK in 1994.

My prior life was in Marketing and Sales for Lexmark International, Ltd. and IBM (UK) Ltd.

I am passionate about what makes people tick (especially myself) and am always looking for ways to help everyone reach their highest potential (including myself.)

I'm a fitness enthusiast, having just recently (well, 2 years ago. "Recent" changes once you reach the half-century mark, eh?) discovered Bikram Yoga. And, I am one of four members in the jazz acappella vocal quartet "EarReverence."

I, naturally, also love to cook.

Carol:
The strength and authenticity of your voice has drawn many more voices into the forum conversation you started. I gave it a good mention in the email newsletter and it is refreshing to see a number have read it and commented on it. Thanks for such a fabulous contribution to the employee engagement network.

Hey, Carol! Thanks for inviting me to join your network. I'm thrilled that you're using cooking as a teambuilding vehicle and we have something in common. I do the same, but with championship barbecue! Here's a link: http://ronshewchuk.blogs.com/for_your_approval/2006/04/teamwork_throug.html

Carol,
It is fantastic that we have 139 members already in under 7 weeks. Just imagine if we keep growing like that what we can accomplish collectively for employees, leaders, organizations, customers, and even ourselves.

Carol,
I have long been a proponent of team building by the shared preparation of a meal. There is nothing quite like food to bring people together.
Welcome!

Salvatore: Indeed networking is old. I was in Nipawin Saskatchewan 1 month ago. Went for a run at 6:30 a.m. I passed Carla's dinner and outside there were 14 pick up trucks parked. Inside the farmers were having coffee and conversation. I bet it w...

Hi, Craig-- What do you play? There's a Celtic music session on Monday nights at Fiddler's Hearth, in South Bend. If you're ever in north-central Indiana on a Monday night, it's a good place to be. It runs from about 8-12 PM. Fr. Jim
