Me start, eh? Okay. My educational background is theological, of course, I
have an MA in Pastoral Ministry fro the Franciscan University of Steubenville
Ohio, and a BA in Religious Studies from Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell
Connecticut. I'vebeen a military chapain (State Guard/State Defense Force)
for the past eighten years, with about 500 hours of profesional military
education. I'm currently designing some distance-learning courses for a
small Christian college in Florida.
My interest in Sociology/Socia Anthropology goes back ('way back) to
when I was in my twenties and read a book entitled "Hunting Bands." It
was an examination of tribal behavior in modern corporations, and it
really affected my outlook.
The six basic human needs are air, water, food, clothing, shelter and
companionship. These are best delivered by, and balanced human beings
are best produced and nurtured in, the basic human social group: the
nuclear family, consisting of a lifetime-committed husband and wife and
their children.
The fundamental post-basic social unit is the tribe, or clan: an efficient and
effective way for families to share their knowledge, skills and abilities with
each other.
I think that might answer the questions in your post, and perhaps provide
food for a discussion.

Engagement-Now We're Getting Personal!
This is also posted at my blog In Pursuit of Excellence, where I am trying to come to terms personally on this whole engagement issue. The challenge: come up with a working definition for engagement. Not easy, but I’m going to give it a shot based on four attributes I hold as truths. OK, not “universal truths” but my opinion. I feel these truths are pretty indisputable, but if you want to challenge any of them we can have some fun with this.

A pilot project: engaging employees in separate locations.
I created a Ning network for my staff members in May 2009. After an initial meeting with management, the idea was put on hold. In mid November 2009, management gave me word that I could go ahead and launch the Ning network I created in the summer....
