Culture, Norms…the 2020 Engagement Vision

“Achieve a 20% increase in engagement by the year 2020”. How do we do that? I’ve been involved in several past discussions here on the subject, and I’ve been a proponent for structure, clear definition, brilliant strategy and identifying ways to specifically measure the impacts of engagement and our progress toward 2020. Survey survey survey, plan plan plan, measure measure measure, analyze analyze analyze ad nauseum….We’ve cracked the 4700-member mark but it has seemed to me the added mass is…See More

Who are you?
Besides family, my other leisure time loves are playing music and lounging around the bass pond.
I am a people and process improvement practitioner who believes you cannot improve or accomplish things, including goals and results, without going through people -- the gatekeepers.
What is your interest or involvement in employee engagement?
Engagement is the great enabler of strategy. I serve as catalyst. A very consuming passion that has taken the front burner is this "greater good" thing...impacting community.

Engagement has everything to do with connecting, a couple of examples follow. This is relevant to “the Greater Good” to which I have a deep personal connection.

Letter to the Boss, From John Everyman

Dear Sir:

My name is John Everyman, and I’m one of the hundreds of people who work for you. Like me, many of my co-workers have started working here fairly recently after losing their jobs. You probably haven’t had a chance to get to know many of us or what we did before we came here, but that’s understandable. Since we’ve been working side-by-side, I’ll help you get to know a little about them.

Many of my co-workers have had impressive careers and responsible, important… Continue

Engagement-Now We're Getting Personal!

This is also posted at my blog In Pursuit of Excellence, where I am trying to come to terms personally on this whole engagement issue. The challenge: come up with a working definition for engagement. Not easy, but I’m going to give it a shot based on four attributes I hold as truths. OK, not “universal truths” but my opinion. I feel these truths are pretty indisputable, but if you want to challenge any of them we can have some fun with… Continue

Hi Craig:

How are you doing? I just got back from some work on engagement in South Africa and always appreciate seeing a familiar face on the network. All the best in all of your work.

My 3WOWS for you are: caring, committed, and unique. You care deeply about others and engagement, you keep working hard on engagement and you are uniquely personable.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for your heads up. I got a similar reply from David. And as I told him, that's what I get for not fully reading the instructions.

I agree with your take on what to do with my questions. Perhaps there will be another forum for me to present these ideas.
