Hello Jim, and welcome! David, for some reason when I see "movement" all I can think of is Arlo Guthrie. But I date myself.... With your vision, you are hitting on the purpose of the "Engagement for the Greater Good" group I just started. That r...

One thought that occurs to me (as I read your comment that "too many people simply are not at a high level of “satisfaction” societally") is that what may be keeping some from great engagement is that their level of dis-satisfaction may be too low...

Hi Terrence. Thanks for joining in. I'm really curious where this will go. It seems I am always looking for a meaningful, personally engaging cause. The title of this group reflects that. I’d like to briefly explain what I’m looking at….hypothesi...

The issues facing society generally and education specifically, especially pertaining to engagement, are something I can really sink my teeth into. How about you? How can engagement truly change the face of the world we live in?

Greetings, Shikha and all. As you are researching EE, I have nothing much from an empirical / research perspective to add that you haven't seen I'm sure. I (along with many other practitioners here) have been searching mightily for help in bridgi...

I didn't see that anyone else brought this up, so just to clarify-anything that is "published" does not become "public domain". PD means it's been around since dirt and the copyright has expired, so it's up for grabs. Think about the song "Oh Susa...

Strategy execution is more difficult, and possibly more critical, than planning. On the one hand, if you have a flawed plan you achieve the wrong results. But if you execute the wrong plan, at least you achieve something! OK, I’m playing with you...

Greetings once again, Frode: What you are laying out is absolutely critical. I posted a blog some time ago that is dead-on with what you are embarking on, based on personal experience. A short excerpt: The depth of my passion for the BlessingWhi...

Hi, Craig-- What do you play? There's a Celtic music session on Monday nights at Fiddler's Hearth, in South Bend. If you're ever in north-central Indiana on a Monday night, it's a good place to be. It runs from about 8-12 PM. Fr. Jim

Hi, Craig--

Me start, eh? Okay. My educational background is theological, of course, I
have an MA in Pastoral Ministry fro the Franciscan University of Steubenville
Ohio, and a BA in Religious Studies from Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell
Connecticut. I'vebeen a military chapain (State Guard/State Defense Force)
for the past eighten years, with about 500 hours of profesional military
education. I'm currently designing some distance-learning courses for a
small Christian college in Florida.

My interest in Sociology/Socia Anthropology goes back ('way back) to
when I was in my twenties and read a book entitled "Hunting Bands." It
was an examination of tribal behavior in modern corporations, and it
really affected my outlook.

The six basic human needs are air, water, food, clothing, shelter and
companionship. These are best delivered by, and balanced human beings
are best produced and nurtured in, the basic human social group: the
nuclear family, consisting of a lifetime-committed husband and wife and
their children.

The fundamental post-basic social unit is the tribe, or clan: an efficient and
effective way for families to share their knowledge, skills and abilities with
each other.

I think that might answer the questions in your post, and perhaps provide
food for a discussion.

It's good to meet you!

Blessings--

Fr. Jim <><</body>

Who are you?
I am, first and foremost, a brand new grandfather for the third time. I am also a people and process improvement practitioner who believes you cannot improve or accomplish things, including goals and results, without going through people -- the gatekeepers.
What is your interest or involvement in employee engagement?
Engagement is the great enabler of strategy. I serve as catalyst

Engagement-Now We're Getting Personal!

This is also posted at my blog In Pursuit of Excellence, where I am trying to come to terms personally on this whole engagement issue. The challenge: come up with a working definition for engagement. Not easy, but I’m going to give it a shot based on four attributes I hold as truths. OK, not “universal truths” but my opinion. I feel these truths are pretty indisputable, but if you want to challenge any of them we can have some fun with this.

Managers or Supervisors can engage employees by demonstrating little acts of kindness for absolutely no reason at all. eg. Can I help you carry that? Is there anything I can get for you? etc. etc.
