Profile Information

Who are you?
I'm a Business Manager in Australia's welfare organisation, Centrelink.

I have been in the public service for just over 30 years, with the last 15 years being in some form of management position. I have managed teams of as few as 3 staff up to teams of about 70 ... they all come with their own special challenges no matter how big or how small.

As a manager, I do look to set an environment for my staff which is conducive to their work effort and development. Employee engagement is absolutely critical in this, where, if staff do not feel that I'm engaging them in thier work they will generally not do the best they can do, for me or themselves.
What is your interest or involvement in employee engagement?
I'm a Business Manager with a team of about 40
Where are you located?
Canberra

Articles on engaging leadership

Mike King writes "Leadership is about people .." and he's 100% correct. You cannot lead if there is no-one to be engaged and led.

On LearnThis Mike provides 8 articles on engaging leadership ... and a whole host of other articles. Great stuff!

Focus on results, NOT time

How many times have you been working on a project and you've had to focus on justifying the amount of time you've spent doing the work rather than actually doing it? There's an emphasis on being seen, rather than being seen to deliver.

Completely agree with the sentiments expressed in this post

Introverts and extroverts

While this kicks off as a humourous look at the differences, there is a hell of a lot of truth in here, which helps when trying to work out how to relate to the team.
