Throwing on the Lifejacket: Surviving Your Worklife in the New Economy

Hi All,

Just recently one of our folks was asked to write a piece on personal engagement in this down economy - it's sort of an open letter to employees. The article was very well received and we have shared it on our website. The article is called Throwing on the Lifejacket: Surviving Your Worklife in the New Economy. I hope you find this timely - feel free to share with others who may find it helpful. It covers the following:

Building a coaching culture that drives employee engagement

Hi all!

Following up on the research we did on employee engagement in the beginning of 2008 we have just published a new report on the role of coaching - and more specifically the role of a coaching culture - on helping organizations acheive their goals. Effective coaching is, as we know, a key driver of employee engagement. It allows for an effective dialogue between an employee and their direct manager, and allows for personal growth - a key driver of employee satisfaction and contribution.… Continue

We encourage everybody who wants to provide feedback on this topic to complete our short survey:… Continue

Hi Fraser:
They various geographical reports are very well done. I wrote an article on my website about it too and hope to even write a bit more in the coming weeks.

Absolutely. Sadly many folks fit the pattern. We could come up with a more complimentary definition, but I think it helps to understand the definition. A specific group of employees has found a niche in a company and are somewhat RIP (retired in place) - sometimes this comes from a lack of clarity on priorities, but it it can also come from a lack of pressure. Each organisation should help clarify what is expected of employees, but also clarify there is a 'price of admission' to the company.

I look forward to the results of the poll.

Fraser,

All the best with your work. Hamsters did catch my attention.

I will be publishing the responses on my blog next week. Currently 19 said no and 8 have said yes.

I will also be posting the vote on Slacker Manager on Thursday so the number of votes should swell dramatically. I think it is good to get people talking about engagement.

I recently traveled out to the West Coast to present our recent findings on employee engagement. We conducted a survey of 8,000+ workers worldwide and present the results in a 40 page overview that can be downloaded (for free!) from our website: http://www.blessingwhite.com

If you have any feedback on the research I would be delighted to hear it - just add a comment to this blog page and I will be sure to respond.

Cheers,

Fraser
