Hi John

I am looking at employee engagement as part of my PhD as well - Human and Oranizational Systems at Fielding Graduate University. I'm not as far along as you (started September 2007) but start my data collection in December of this year. I'll be creating a tool to measure engagement as part of my studies and will pilot the tool, beginning in December.

Great to connect! I look forward to the opportunity to dialogue.

Cheers,
Deirdre

Likewise, Tim. It's a fascinating topic. I'm just starting my literature review and can say there is a lot for me to plow through. That's a good sign that the topic is as important to successful organizations as I believe it is. Looking forward to participating on the network.

Employee Engagement definitions are problematic as each consulting company works with their own tools and terms. Do you have a preferred definition or have you created one yourself?

John,
Welcome aboard the network. I would love to hear about your dissertation topic related to employee engagement. The network can always benefit from the perspective of a researcher on the topic. I spent a week in Biloxi with my family before the big hurricane and loved our time there. I hope things are mostly back to normal.

Some excellent responses already to your great question Maggie. The cynical workers present a great opportunity to make an organisation a greater place to work. Let's face it, they're cynical for a reason and if you can get truly under the skin of...

I would stop talking to employees and start listening to them. Find out what they want and how they want it. Find out how they think would be the best way to get it and help them to get it. They will have concerns, suggestions, complaints, and que...

Jason, Thanks. I agree that feeling in control is big. Also think the mistake with executive communications comes down to " It's not what you say, it's what people hear." The traditional "messaging" often fails on the latter. Lois
