Profile Information

Who are you?
I am the president of a small consulting firm that focus in on improving employee motivation and engagement. We work with companies across the US and world. Much of our focus is on extrinsic rewards, but we try to bring a more holistic approach to typical incentive or pay practices. Much of our motivational theory is based on the 4-Drive Model of employee motivation.
What is your interest or involvement in employee engagement?
I am fascinated by how people are engaged and motivated in their life - I spend way too much time reading and researching this stuff. I'm also getting my PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and my dissertation is on personality and extrinsic rewards.

Tricks to stay motivated everyday!

It is hard to keep myself fully motivated everyday. I tend to have days where my motivation keeps me energized and engaged so much that I don't realize how much time has passed. Then there are other days where I don't seem to get the wheels turning at all. This is not uncommon. Through the interviews and focus groups we've conducted, we've found that many people (and groups) go through this ebb and flow of motivation. We tend to have periods where everything is clicking and others where we just… Continue

I received a hand written thank you note for a project I did a few months ago. It was not only a pleasant surprise, but one that has maintained some impact after several months. I’m of the age that when I first started in work, we used to give recognition through hand written cards and notes on a regular (ok, maybe not so regular) basis. With the advent of e-mail and electronic forms of communication, the hand written thank you has gone the way of the pay phone – not quite dead, but pretty close… Continue

Kurt,

I am so pleased you joined us and I trust you will shine a lantern on employee engagement here. I enjoyed visiting your website and seeing what you and your team is doing. We need authentic and powerful approaches to engagement and it looks like that is your contribution.

I trust you will engage here and in the process find meaningful information and valuable contacts.

Let me know if I can be of assistance. I think I can almost see the lantern shining up here in Winnipeg!

David
