Wow what a question, caught me off guard seeing as I left my architecture days behind a while back hehe!
I believe the aesthetics of the workplace are definitely important; "form & function" of the desks, chairs, environment. I feel this still carries with me today - the architect within - as I always want to turn any drab office space or cubicle into a much more eye pleasing, inviting haven.
Lighting is also an important factor, how much natural day light comes into the office during work hours - for me I'd much rather have a naturally lit office than the clinical neons blazing all day, I feel it affects my productivity and energy at work. Also color I'd say, reflecting on the whole 'color therapy' arena would really make an impact as well as opposed to the generic brown/grey/black of the corporate world.
The design of the work environment itself needs to be servicing a purpose as well as providing room for social interaction both indoor and outdoor if possible. Looking back at my time at the architectural firm I longed for comfy seating areas to discuss ideas with colleagues or more inviting lunch/coffee areas. We had a small library but it was so stuffy and very school like that it didn't induce creativity.
Don't know if all architects have the same views but definitely feel these areas affect my engagement, would be interested to hear from about this project :)
