Leadership: Series of 8 Articles on true engaging leadership.

Leadership is about people and so is employee engagement. They are closely related so I thought I'd add this entry here to point out my latest series on Leadership at my blog site, LearnThis.ca

These series have always been the best part of my site and are definitely the most engaging with my readers. I think many people from here would enjoy it as well.

The introduction page is here and the rest of the series is coming out whi… Continue

Mountain Unicycling: Now That's An Engaging Activity!!!

Thought this was most relevant and David's been after me to post more about this activity of mine. I wrote an article about it on my blog about what makes it SO engaging. Because it definitely is. I NEVER get left alone on that thing! That's why I have to ride it in the toughest trails in the mountains!

Anyway, the article is here... http://learnthis.ca/2008/10/mountain-unicycling-not-thats-an-engaging-actContinue

My blog is elsewhere, but employee engagement is here...

Well, I don't write strictly on employee engagement much at my regular blog site, which is Learn This. However, I do write quite a lot of related articles and many about management and leadership skills in the workplace and one recently was about promoting employee engagement in the workplace.

Thanks for the invite, Mike. Thanks for staying in touch. Hope the unicycling weather in Calgary has gotten better than it's been.

Thanks Phil for the comment. I'm glad you found that article, its one of my personal favorites! I hope to contribute and learn from this community as well, it appears (first impression) to be an extremely knowledgeable and engaging group!

Hey Mike. I quickly checked out your blog at LearnThis.ca. I ran into one of your posts on humility. Profound thoughts... well put. Welcome!

Mike,

This network has made it, anybody who can engage life on one wheel and maintain balance, perspective, momentum, and engaement belongs here. You have much to teach us. I hope you will post a video of the one wheel moving mountains.

I appreciate you joining. I will be in Calgary in July from July 20 to July 31. I am taking a 10 day improvisation course with Keith Johnstone. Seems to me you would be good at that.

Some excellent responses already to your great question Maggie. The cynical workers present a great opportunity to make an organisation a greater place to work. Let's face it, they're cynical for a reason and if you can get truly under the skin of...

I would stop talking to employees and start listening to them. Find out what they want and how they want it. Find out how they think would be the best way to get it and help them to get it. They will have concerns, suggestions, complaints, and que...

Jason, Thanks. I agree that feeling in control is big. Also think the mistake with executive communications comes down to " It's not what you say, it's what people hear." The traditional "messaging" often fails on the latter. Lois

Hi Lois, my last organisation did some work around 'fair process'. They had some wonderful case studies around this sort of issue. They had three key elements which I though summed up nicely what could be done. Engage with everyone affected by the...

Well said, Susan. It all starts with listening, really listening 100% without the distraction of figuring out a response while the other person is talking. For some short articles on this process take a look at http://www.bensimonton.com/articles...
