Randy,
Engagement 101 is a mess of various definitions. We have a forum on this site with 20 responses already. See: http://employeeengagement.ning.com/forum/topic/show?id=1986438%3ATopic%3A18
The Wikipedia definition is out of date, different consulting companies have their "own" definition and academics quibble about the terms. I encourage you to look at the forum. I like some of Tim Wright's focus on defining engagement and my view is embraced by my 10 principles at www.davidzinger.com. How evasive does this sound to you? To me engagement involves strong connections to our work, our organization. others to create results that make a difference for all of us.I think there are cognitive, emotional, and behavioral elements and I also think there are organizational elements. Some of the raw material comes from personal and organizational energy management: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. Whoops I better stop or I'll take your whole page.

Randy,
Judging by your website you obviously have an appetite for books. I love the idea and the ability to get a good understanding of a couple of book while also getting real nourishment. Welcome to the network.

Thanks a lot for your help ! I actually did have a look on Gallup's 12 Questions, the only worry is that it measures more the enablers of employee engagement than employee engagement itself. I have however grouped the items into themes, and only o...

Beautiful video that makes you think about all the 'moments' in your life. When you think about it, engagement is all about moments too...when someone takes that brief moment to get to know you, to do something nice for you, etc....in the end- all...
