I just read a newsletter that pointed out that voluntary turnover was up even during the recession. If this is true, it underscores the need to involve employees and work with them to build engagement and to retain them.

Thanks, Melanie, I agree 100%. I aslo agree with the caveat to ensure that there is a commitment to actually use the results. This is true no matter the economic situation.

I agree. Establishing the criteria for success before you begin is key. With respect to when you collect survey data, I typically recommend every 2-3 years. Oftener if there have been significant organizational changes.

I am an employee survey consultant specializing in employee engagement. I have been working in the employee survey field for over 31 years, including 8 years in international employee commitment research.

I was a Senior Associate at Rensis Likert Associates for over 18 years and an Assistant VP at Aon Consulting's Loyalty Institute for over 10 years.
