I agree with Peter. I am working from the assumption that the folks in question are being paid a fair living wage. That is, a fair reasonable wage is being provided for their good effort. I'd like to continue with Peter's thread and add another thou…

Who are you?
I am taking my MA in Human Resource management and has been involved with EE for more than a year. I work for a call center with 300 employees and handle Performance Management, Employee Communication and Recreational Activies.

Hi iya,
In addition to David's suggestions, I suggest that you also have a health check-up - you could be run-down from working long hours/handling stressful situations, etc. Your doctor can let you know if you know if you are depleting your resources. You may be burning out. Make sure your physical health is good. Fatigue can cause you to feel disengaged.
Typically, women are very good at looking after and helping others, but do not do such a good job for themselves.
Your profile says you handle Recreational Activities (in addition to your other duties) - Am I correct that this is to make sure employees are having some "fun"? Are you taking time to have some fun yourself? You may be so busy making sure everyone else is having fun, that you forgot to have some yourself.
I personally had a wakeup call, when my grandson told me (when I said I was too tired to play with him) "Grandma, the reason you are so tired all the time is because you forgot how to how to play. I'll teach you."
I realized then that I as much as I loved my work, I needed to add balance or I would burn out.

I am pleased you came forward and asked for help with in regards to disengagement. I do think it is helpful to look at the contributing factors of disengagement.

How much resides in you, in the organization, in the people you report to etc?

Do you feel this is a temporary state or an experience that is growing and getting worse?

Is this specific to you or are other people in the organization also feeling higher levels of disengagement?

It sounds to me like you are not disengaged from the other people but from certain tasks or work or projects?

What changes can you make and what changes is the organization willing to make?

I hope this is mildly helpful and encourage you to keep getting perspective on this.

David

Appreciate the question--but what if you consider that there is more than one type of "true" engagement, and that different types of engagement may involve more or less spiritual, intellectual or participatory involvement?
