Do you deal with an organization or service provider whose performance is lacking, but somehow you continue to accept their poor performance? If you honestly think about it, you’ll probably answer “yes.” But don’t fret too much because we all do it to some degree. But why do we put with mediocrity an…

What are the key factors for employee engagement? I and others have written at length on this topic. I believe one key factor for employee engagement is creating an environment in which employees want to engage through strategic appreciation of employee efforts. But there are many factors that feed a truly engaging environment.
Recent research…

…a JOB in a “traditional” world?
Traditional people only sees the surface, thereby, missing the unusually great talents. This is for the simple fact that they just talk to the paper and not the person. They just browse the resume and not analyze the profile.
Search sites are close to useless for the unconventional… for this time, recruiters just talks to computers. Obviously, the best ways would then be… through “networking” and self-promotion, like “blogs.”
Clearly, a paradigm shift is neede…

As you would have noticed from most of my writings, I often find that 'change' programs and Employee Engagement initiatives fail as a result of poor follow-up on research findings. Organizations, with or without the help of consultants, are able to design great diagnostic tools to measure the right issues. Using analytics, they are able to…

The current environment poses significant challenges to organizations across the globe. Employees are suffering too. Employees face a fair amount of confusion about their companies’ goals & strategy and at a micro-level, confusion about their own job roles. There are heightened concerns over job security & compensation. I could go one with…

Whether it is a 360 degree feedback tool, a performance review, or an organizational survey of some sort, getting feedback can be a challenging experience. I have seen people cry, visibly get upset, seek retaliation, and even quit their jobs. Many of us cannot help our reactions. We, as human beings, are built to protect ourselves and when we receive feedback that feels painful or threatening to our self image we can respond more like 2 year old than a 40 year old. Here are some tips on how we s…

1. Plan Ahead
It’s not uncommon for those of us who manage from the middle to find that the planning, execution, and pace of communication around organizational change is outside the scope of our control. But we can still plan ahead. We can focus our planning efforts on the people we support--think about what the change means on an individual level, how you want each person to feel about the change, their differences in work and communication styles, and prepare to pull each employee into…

Create Change
December 18, 2008
When I speak to employees who are not executives they always relate to these facts and ideas. I am, after all, describing what they’ve experienced and how most of them feel.
So it is not surprising that they always ask,
Have you talked with our executives and upper level managers? If you have, what was their reaction? Are they even aware of what’s going on? Are they concerned enough to do anything different now that they know how people feel? What can…

Leading Transformative Change: Concepts and Practices in Appreciative Inquiry - November 6/7 - Teachers College, Columbia University
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The most amazing way to increase employee engagement is to provide a forum for them to tell their stories, to have them listen to each other, and to build plans around what they understand and come to see as their capabilities. The framework of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) has been used for over 25 years to boost the capacity of groups to perfo…
