Profile

About Me: (Please let us know about you and also add a picture to your profile).
I am a former professor of psychology and associate dean of the college of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan. In 1981 I moved to La Jolla, California. and continue to research, write and lecture on the people related issues that I think are important.
What is your involvement in employee engagement?
I published One Foot Out The Door (AMACOM 2007) which makes the case that high levels of commitment and engagement which result from high levels of mutual respect and trust between employees and their organization is key to financial success in a very competitive environment.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

There are two laws I really like: the first, Murphy’s Law says, If anything can go wrong, it will. You can bank on that. The other, Bardwick’s Law of Entitlement says, What ever people get for free stops being a delight and very quickly becomes an entitlement. Woe befalls the endlessly generous giver who never requires something be earned. Instead of receiving gratitude and love from those they’ve benefited so generously, their free offerings are taken for granted and therefore have no value. A… Continue

Judith! I referenced you in an article in CIO! How are you? I've been knee deep in life changes myself but have just delighted in feeling very connected with you. Any chance you'll be on the east coast? I would love to relax over a good meal together!

The feeling's mutual Judy. How's business your side of the pond in this rather "testy" economic climate?

Hi Judy,

Not that you would abuse it, but there is no method for members to send group emails as the lists have been abused on other networks.

Here are some options:

One way to let people know what's up is to write a short blog post and this will appear on the front page of the site until quite a few other blogs are written. It will also be on your own page.

You can write your own email with anyone you specified as a friend too and this will go just to the people you want to notify. It then become very focused and targeted as opposed to an email to 210 members.

I am sure you don't want to start receiving email notifications from 209 other people on the network.

I do compile a bi-weekly newsletter/update if you want me to insert a line or two on some occasion let me know.

In addition, another option, you could start a forum on the topic of engagement in Asia.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Judy:

Irene just sent a copy of your book which I plan to read this weekend and will then post a review of it sometime next week on the US, UK, and Canadian Web sites of both Amazon and Borders. It's great to have you involved with the EE Network, with both feet "in the door." It will be a delight for me to communicate with you in months and years to come.

Meanwhile, best wishes and warmest regards, Bob

Judy,
It is an honor to have you put a foot into this network. I hope we can all "lose the fear and release the energy." I think it is important for people to know the subtitle of your book: How to Combat the Psychological Recession that's alienating employees and hurting American business.
