About Me: (Please let us know about you and also add a picture to your profile).
In one of my first jobs - back in October of 1977 - I had some ideas about changes we could make to improve profit. With the help of my brother I developed a business case and then met with my manager. I was pumped...until about 3 seconds after I shared my idea with him when he looked me in the eyes and said "I didn't hire you to think!" I responded by telling him he was an idiot for thinking that way and then I quit telling him I was going to spend a good chunk of my life proving that in fact he was an idiot....his boss asked how I would pay for school and then offered to keep me around on a different shift (midnights and afternoons so I could afford to go to university....now I have a great deal of fun helping companies "communicate" with staff so as to engage them fully...and when I am not doing that I play golf and seek out good, inexpensive wines....
What is your involvement in employee engagement?

It's amazing what happens when I go to the golf course for a while.....

So just a few weeks ago I was here on the network and we had just under 100 members...and then I headed off to a wonderful place on the extreme west coast of Oregon to play golf at Bandon Dunes - perhpas the most incredible place I have had the fortune to play. Truly a unique environment in among and atop the dunes, each hole crafted to feel like it has been there since the beginning of time. While the golf was great (I even managed a few decent roun… Continue

[...As for the name of the Orange Chair - well, the idea behind is that who ever occupies the orange chair has the floor - and all others must listen and develop an understanding...]

Love it. Like the conch from Golding's 'Lord of the Flies', but more civilized.

Hey Ken. Just read through your list of A to Z. Loved the novel slant of looking at engagement through the eyes of the employee. Terrific work from you and your team.

I'm intrigued about the name "The Orange Chair". I'd love to hear the story behind that name...

Ken,
I could not resist I did a first read of the article. Would it be possible to make a copy of this and share in a workshop with full credit to you and your site?
